Pay Range: $18-$20 (Commensurate with prior experience)

About Us

We are a patient-centered, family-oriented, friendly practice that provides the highest level of patient care. We have 20 years of experience in diagnosing and treating patients from the Florida Keys, South Florida, and from many parts of the country. We use the latest conservative and surgical treatments for medical conditions and surgery of the foot, ankle and lower leg. Our service oriented practice focuses on the impact that foot health can have on overall health. Whether it is a new or pre-existing condition, our board-certified surgeons are committed to understanding pain, how it affects health, and treating our patients with care.

Your Day to Day Responsibilities

- Take and develop x-rays of the patient's legs, ankles and feet

- Cast for diabetic shoe inserts as well as do fittings for shoes/CAM boots/braces

- Remove sutures and staples from post-operative patients as well as educate them on proper post-op care

- Assist with foot exams, routine and diabetic nail care, bandaging, unna boot dressings

- Wound care, cleaning, application of regenerative grafts and bandages

- Send out specimens/castings to proper labs and locations

- Dispense Durable Medical Equipment and ensure it is properly fitted

- Dispense certain medications and be able to call in/e-prescribe medications to the pharmacy for patients

- Help elderly patients take off and put on their shoes and move about the exam area

- Keep patient charts up to date on all medications and medical history

- Scheduling surgeries and appointments as well as obtaining authorizations necessary for imaging services/surgeries and sending referrals to doctors offices

- Ordering, sorting, and storing supplies and restocking exam rooms.

- Sterilizing exam rooms to prevent the spread of infection. Extra measures are currently in place to keep patients safe from the spread of COVID-19

- Setting up and cleaning instruments/equipment for the Doctor

- Explaining treatment procedures and answering any questions the patient may have

- Other duties and special projects, as assigned

- This role requires some travel between our office locations. See below for office schedule

Surgical Assistance

- Assist Doctor in minor surgeries at the office. These minor surgical procedures may range from ingrown nail removal to biopsies and aspirations. Major surgery is performed at either the surgery center in Miami, Mariners Hospital, or the Surgery Center of Key West with a surgical technician as the assistant.

30-60-90 Day Goals

30 Days

· Total understanding of office shift schedules and how to schedule patients (We have 3 offices; it can be a little complicated at first)

· Be a sponge and ask a ton of questions about our existing MA processes and procedures

· Become proficient at taking and developing x-rays

60 Days

· Full understanding of pre surgery scheduling and procedures for patients

· Know how to properly set up the rooms for all procedures and when the doctor requires assistance

· Be familiar with commonly prescribed medications and know how to both call in and e-prescribe these

90 Days

· Be able to book surgeries and obtain necessary authorizations

· Know how to answer patient questions regarding procedures, post-op care, and surgeries (consulting the doctor when necessary)

· You have earned the respect and trust of the staff and are fully integrated into the team

Your Background Includes

· Experience as a medical assistant preferred, but willing to train the right candidate

· You have an interest in medicine and are passionate about learning more

· Preferred experience navigating medical billing systems, fielding insurance questions/issues and familiar with HIPPA laws and regulations

Office Schedule:

Monday – Marathon office

Tuesday- key west

Wednesday - Marathon Office (your office day for admin work - no patients this day)

Thursday - key west

Friday - Marathon Office

Workdays are typically 8:30am to 5pm longer days on busy season
