AQUARIST JOB DESCRIPTION
The individual in this position attends aquatic life, feeds according to schedule, cleans and upkeeps tanks, maintains equipment and life support systems, monitors water quality and help with the pack-out sessions. The aquarist will also be involved in the collection of specimens; and for this activity, a scuba diving certification is required.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Maintain all tanks in the Lab. This includes routine tank cleaning, water quality testing, water changes, etc.
- Operate equipment and LSS including pumps, filters, chillers/heaters and blowers and participate in scheduled maintenance of utensils, tools, equipment and facilities
- Maintain and repair equipment at the lab (pumps, tanks, pipelines) collection equipment (nets, boats, gear) and facilities.
- Monitor collections for detection and treatment of diseases
- Prepare food and feed the collected specimens, according to schedules.
- Help in the packing and shipping of corals, plants, fish and invertebrates.
- Maintain stock of pre-made packing materials (bags, boxes) used to ship specimens.
- Collect specimens using hand nets, buckets or other materials and Snorkeling or Scuba gear
Qualifications and Requirements
- Degree in Marine Biology, Environmental Science or related field.
- SCUBA Diving certification with at least 12 logged dives.
- Animal husbandry skills prefered.
- Ability to update and maintain aquaria pumps, filters, and basic plumbing skills
- Ability to handle the physical demands of the job.
- Ability to work weekends and extended hours and manage a dynamic work schedule, accomodating to last minute changes.
- Availability to lift up to 60 Lbs.
Compensation
A competitive hourly salary if offered for this position, paid biweekly. Salary re-evaluated after 30 days
Working Hours
Schedule is flexible but Daily activities usually take place between 8 AM and 5 PM, 5 days each week, although this schedule may change due to weather conditions that greatly impact collection activities. Working weekends is expected.

Pay: $16.00 - $17.50 per hour
