Job Summary
The Kayak/Paddle Board Attendant is responsible for ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for all guests participating in self-guided kayak and paddleboard activities. This role involves assisting customers with rentals, maintaining equipment, ensuring adherence to park rules and safety standards, and providing excellent customer service. The attendant must possess strong swimming and paddling skills, work effectively in outdoor conditions, and be comfortable performing physically demanding tasks in a dynamic, guest-centered environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service & Guest Support
- Greet guests warmly and provide clear instructions on kayak and paddleboard use, park safety rules, and route information.
- Assist customers entering and exiting kayaks or stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) safely.
- Respond promptly to customer needs and inquiries, maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Provide assistance to guests in the water as needed, including swimming or kayaking out to support them.
- Uphold the highest standards of guest safety and satisfaction throughout all activities.
Equipment Handling & Maintenance
- Set up, clean, and inspect kayaks, paddleboards, paddles, and life jackets before and after each use.
- Disinfect all equipment using MicroQuAT or other approved cleaning agents in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Lift, transport, and properly store kayaks and SUPs in designated areas.
- Track equipment checkouts and returns using an iPad or digital system.
- Identify and report damaged or missing equipment to supervisors immediately.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all State Park rules, company policies, and safety procedures.
- Ensure all guests wear life jackets and receive proper safety orientation before launching.
- Monitor weather and water conditions, notifying management of unsafe circumstances.
- Maintain situational awareness of all guests on the water and provide support as required.
- Assist in emergency situations, such as rescues or first aid response, following proper protocol.
Teamwork & Operations
- Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure smooth operations and excellent guest service.
- Support cross-training initiatives in other departments (e.g., concessions, retail) as needed.
- Participate in setup and breakdown of work areas at the start and end of each shift.
- Flexibly adapt to changes in schedules, weather conditions, and guest volume.
Experience
- 1–2 years of experience in outdoor recreation, water sports, customer service, or hospitality preferred not mandatory.
- Prior experience with kayaking, paddleboarding, or aquatic safety strongly desired.
- Background in lifeguarding, swim instruction, or recreational guiding is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, outdoor environments and handle physically demanding tasks.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong swimming skills required.
- Intermediate to advanced paddling ability preferred.
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver kayaks, SUPs, and related gear (up to 50 lbs).
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying conditions (heat, rain, bugs, wind).
- Comfortable using an iPad or digital check-in system for customer management.
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and peak season days.
- Must always maintain a positive attitude and professional appearance.
Job Type: Part-time
