Position Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Handyman to join our property management team. This role is responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the upkeep and functionality of residential homes and guesthouses. The ideal candidate will possess a broad range of skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general repairs, with a focus on providing prompt, high-quality service to tenants and property owners.
Key Responsibilities:
General Maintenance:
- Perform general repairs and maintenance on plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other property systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with appliances, fixtures, and utilities.
- Inspect properties regularly and ensure all areas are in good working order.
Repairs and Renovations:
- Repair or replace damaged walls, doors, windows, and floors.
- Conduct minor plumbing repairs (e.g., fixing leaks, unclogging drains).
- Assist with electrical repairs, such as replacing light switches, outlets, and bulbs.
- Perform basic carpentry work (e.g., fixing furniture, cabinetry, etc.).
Preventative Maintenance:
- Perform regular checks and preventive maintenance to avoid major repairs.
- Ensure all safety and compliance standards are met within the property.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, placing orders when necessary.
Tenant Support:
- Respond to tenant maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
- Ensure tenants’ living environments are safe, clean, and comfortable.
- Communicate with the property management team regarding ongoing repairs and issues.
Emergency Repairs:
- Be available for after-hours emergency repairs as needed (depending on the property’s needs).
- Handle urgent maintenance issues such as leaks, power outages, or heating failures.
Property Improvements:
- Assist in preparing properties for new tenants (e.g., painting, cleaning, etc.).
- Help with upgrades or remodels of units, including layout changes or updating fixtures.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair work completed.
- Update work orders and report on the status of ongoing projects.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a handyman or in a similar role (at least 2 years preferred).
- Skilled in basic plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and general repairs.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Strong communication skills with tenants, vendors and property management team.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if required).
- High school diploma or equivalent (additional certification or training in maintenance or trades is a plus).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with painting, flooring, and drywall repair.
- Knowledge of appliance repair and maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of building codes and legal requirements for residential or commercial buildings.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy items (up to 50 lbs).
- Ability to perform manual labor, including climbing ladders and bending.
- Work in a variety of weather conditions, if applicable.
Work Schedule:
- Based on the needs of the business to include weekdays and weekends and on-call hours, if needed for an emergency.
