Construction Superintendent
Ryan is a family owned and operated large scale sitework contractor with offices in Miami, Deerfield Beach and Stuart, Florida. This fifth generation company has built the Ryan foundation in the Civil / Sitework / Heavy Highway Industry exceeding our client’s expectation by providing them with full earthwork, underground utilities, heavy highway paving, Land Development and Infrastructure Civil engineering projects throughout South East Florida.
Ryan’s Heavy Civil Roadway Superintendents are accountable for the day to day management and execution of the work, coordinating the delivery of materials, equipment and subcontractor services, as well as supervising their workforce at the job site. They exceed our client’s expectations producing and supervising quality civil work sites to our customer specifications within the timeframe and budget required by planning, coordinating and managing multiple projects while supervising field employees and subcontractors. They are our on site representative with the responsibility of ensuring all requirements are clearly communicated to our internal team and the projects parameters are met within budget and timeframes specified.
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, prioritize and organize material deliveries, equipment, manpower and subcontractors in a manner ensuring that projects progress in an efficient and productive manner.
- Remain knowledgeable and up-to-date on all State of Florida, FDOT and South Florida Water Management practices.
- Inspect job sites daily to ensure construction is being performed in accordance with plans, and specifications.
- Maintain and enforce all OSHA safety practices and perform daily job site safety inspections.
- Inspect work and subcontractor work daily.
- Ensure that all subcontracted work progresses according to schedule.
- Perform final inspection on completed work and have any deficiencies corrected, prior to subcontractor demobilizing from site.
- Interface with client’s representative on job site to resolve issues, schedule customer provided equipment deliveries and ensure total customer satisfaction.
- Maintain open communication with internal/external field personnel and respond, if possible, or convey their needs and concerns to appropriate office personnel.
- Confirm hours worked and description of work performed for employee(s)
- Report time daily to payroll department for all employees on your crew.
- Provide project manager with daily status report(s) as required.
- Perform bid walks and submit documentation.
- Provide documentation for preparation of project deliverables to client.
- Coordinate delivery of road subgrade material, rock and asphalt.
- Report all job cost to budget / job cost reports.
- Participate in pre-construction walks with client and vendors to confirm site layout and staking to ensure correct setbacks, tower orientation and tower anchor distances.
- Ensure underground utilities have been identified and properly marked.
- Immediately report any vehicle accident or workplace injury to the company safety representative.
- Ensure all appropriate building permits, and NTP(s) approvals have been received prior to initiating construction.
- Must be able to work extended hours as required to include evenings and weekends.
- Perform other related duties as required to ensure a safe workplace, quality construction and timely completion of each project.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight and direction to crew/team members in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.
- Coach, mentor and develop team members.
- Empower team members to take ownership of their job and goals. Delegate responsibilities as needed and provide routine constructive feedback on performance.
- Create a culture that is consistent with the organizations focus on team member engagement and that aligns with the organization’s mission, vision and values.
- Lead crew / team members using a performance management and development focused approach to assist in goal setting, two-way feedback, and performance development planning.
- Lead crew / team members to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, and goal accomplishment.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED in related field of study. Bachelor's degree preferred
- Other OSHA 10Hr Safety Course preferred
- Valid Government Issued Driver's License
Primary Responsibilities
- FDOT Heavy Highway Civil Roadwork experience
- MOT plan implementation
- Review and maintain construction schedule
- Work closely with the clients general superintendent and project supervisors
- Site visits to monitor the progress of construction
- Progress meetings with Ryan project manager and the Client
- Review of monthly pay application quantities to be billed to Client for accuracy
- Approval of subcontractor pay application quantities
- Monitoring budget
- Discuss and review possible change orders with Ryan's project manager and office accounting / budget coordinator
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years work experience in Heavy Civil, Road Construction or related field is required.
- Must be familiar will the procurement of road construction services, RFI’s, AIA pay applications, change orders, schedules, etc.
- Expertise in reading plans
- Experience with project management software (e.g. Primavera or Microsoft Project)
- Experience in execution of and review of MOT design plans preferred but not required
