Charley Toppino & Sons is a leading contractor based in the Florida Keys specializing in heavy civil construction projects including highways, bridges, site development, utilities, and earthwork. We are committed to safety, quality, and integrity in everything we do. We're currently seeking experienced and reliable Heavy Equipment Operators to join our growing team.
Position Overview:
As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating various types of heavy equipment to support large-scale civil construction projects. Equipment may include excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, graders, loaders, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy machinery: drive, maneuver, and control complex equipment such as bulldozers, loaders, cranes, excavators, and dump trucks.
- Perform construction tasks: involves moving earth, transporting materials, and assisting in the construction of roads, buildings, and other infrastructure projects.
- Ensure safety: Operators must be knowledgeable about safety protocols and perform pre-trip inspections to ensure equipment is compliant.
- Basic maintenance: responsible for minor vehicle maintenance and reporting any equipment issues.
Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year of experience operating heavy equipment.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
- Strong understanding of job site safety and equipment operation procedures.
- Must be physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to work overtime and travel to job sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA 10 or 30 Certification.
- GPS/Grade control system experience (Trimble, Topcon, etc.).
- Experience on DOT or municipal infrastructure projects.
