Overview
We are a growing custom cabinetry business that is looking for a controller. We are seeking a highly skilled Controller to set up, oversee, and manage our accounting and financial systems from the ground up. This role is more than bookkeeping — it requires strong accounting expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to ensure our financial reporting is accurate, compliant, and useful for guiding business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting System Setup & Oversight
- Establish a proper chart of accounts and implement accounting software (QuickBooks Online or similar)
- Develop financial controls, policies, and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance
Financial Management
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and expense tracking
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and vendor statements
- Ensure proper job costing and allocation of expenses for accurate project profitability
Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
- Provide financial insights and forecasting to ownership
- Monitor cash flow and advise on working capital needs
Compliance & Coordination
- Ensure payroll tax, sales tax, and all state/federal filings are accurate and timely
- Work with outside CPA on tax filings and year-end reporting
- Oversee insurance audits, workers’ comp reporting, and compliance with labor regulations
Strategic Support
- Partner with ownership to create budgets, track performance, and identify cost savings
- Provide financial recommendations to support growth and profitability
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required)
- 5+ years of accounting/finance experience, with at least 2+ years in a Controller or similar leadership role
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, job costing, and payroll compliance
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (or similar) and Excel
- Experience in construction, cabinetry, or manufacturing industries preferred
- Ability to work independently and set up processes from scratch
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
