Summary:
Our high school exchange program is now looking to grow our team and is currently seeking full-time Regional Directors. The Regional Director works primarily from home while remotely working with a team of independent contractors (Local Coordinators). You will be responsible for regionally located host family recruitment, Local Coordinator recruitment, and program needs. The ideal candidate will have leadership qualities, prior management and industry experience and customer service skills. You are motivated to create positive change in your local community and around the globe by facilitating life-changing cultural exchanges for students and local families.

Terms of Employment
The Regional Director position will augment the J1 visa program at UCEUS. This position reports to and supports the Executive Director of Programs. The Regional Director is aware that UCEUS may increase or decrease the number of J1 participants at any time at their discretion. This is a full-time position of approximately 40 hours per week and will be reviewed each year for renewal. It is an at-home position with 50% of travel.
Compensation to start is high commission based and a minimum of 20 students placed on program. To train then for Regional Director position.
Once approved and hired after local coordinator obligations have been met, compensation for the Regional Director position is $45,000 to start, plus the placement of 20 students and that associated salary. Bonus will be available and provided upon performance.
This position is performance based on starting at the Local Coordinator position first. Details will be provided for compensation for starting out as an LC. Job pays per placement, the you will be assessed for the Regional Director position during this time of placements and training.
Terms of Agreement
- You are an independent contractor and agree to place and supervise students within UCEUS programs, to start.
- You report directly to the Executive Director of Programs.
- You shall be the liaison between Local Coordinators and the UCEUS management team.
- You shall establish a schedule and maintain your own office facility and automobile transportation.
- You shall track your own expenses for income tax filing. UCEUS does not advise on tax reporting.
- You will receive a 1099 tax form by the IRS due date if you meet the minimum income guidelines.
- UCEUS provides no benefits whatsoever including paid time off or insurance of any kind at this time. However it will be an amenity in the Regional Director position.
- You shall alert us if you accept a position of any kind with any other student placement organization.
- You must pass a criminal background check and carry a valid driver license and insurance and pass an online training course.
- You should have a working knowledge of social media platforms and an ability to use an online database, and upload forms.
- You should have the time and ability to network within your community and surrounding areas of 120 miles. Example: Rotary, Chambers, Schools, Foundations, any and all ways to network.
General Responsibilities
- Represent UCEUS and place students with full knowledge and compliance of U.S. Department of State (USDOS) regulations and The Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET) standards as outlined in your training. Use training resources as refreshers as needed.
- Recruit and maintain a minimum of 10+ LC's per season. Ideal is 20+ LC's in one area.
- Work side by side with management staff to ensure the general needs of UCEUS are being met.
- When conducting UCEUS business either via speech or email, do so in a professional and courteous manner.
- Provide to UCEUS Management all relevant contact information and have a working phone number with voicemail.
- Respond to inquiries from UCEUS management personnel as soon as possible
- Respond to emergency inquiries from UCEUS management personnel with urgency.
- Immediately communicate issues/emergencies to management and submit required report timely.
- Inform management and host family of any extended absence/unavailability.
- Maintain telephone availability during the hosting season and be available for immediate intervention with calmness and direction. This includes emergency removals from host family or school.
- Evenings and weekends are required as needed. Weekend and evening work as well as travel may be required.
Coordinator and Placement Responsibilities
- You are responsible for the full placement of 10 students as an LC and 20 as a Regional Director. This amount will increase season by season.
- Be the direct report for your LC’s and support them in all areas.
- Mentor, Train and motivate LC’s by providing on-going contact through conference calls, email, and phone.
- Contact high school districts, high schools, host families etc. as needed to assist in the placement process.
- Ensure LC’s, host families and students remain compliant in all policies and procedures.
- Ensure placement paperwork and reporting is done timely and accurately.
- Review monthly student reports to ensure completion and follow up with any concerns.
- Conduct reports for any LC that has not done so.
- Forward important news and information to LC’s in an accurate and timely manner.
- Assist with planning and chaperoning of student events and activities.
- Assist LC’s and host families with medical issues/questions.
- Check in on students as necessary.
Host Family Lead Responsibilities
- Contact all leads, new and previous, until a commitment or refusal is provided.
- Contact current leads and clean up in SMS as needed.
- Regularly search for host families using developed methods and resources by UCEUS or your own.
Regional Director Responsibilities:
- Handles call backs, emails, and any correspondence with host families, schools and local coordinators.
- Recruits, manages, supervises, and provides annual orientation for their network of Local Coordinators (LC).
- Works with UCEUS’s Director of Community Development (DCD) and other UCEUS leadership.
- Ensures recruitment of LCs who make timely, high-quality placements for UCEUS exchange students.
- Cooperates closely with Program Coordinators (PC) and LC’s to match students with suitable, properly motivated U.S. host families and schools.
- Ensure required documentation of placement, orientation, and supervision.
- Assists, when necessary, resolving problems, coordinating in emergency situations
- Works with their LC’s to ensure timely re-placement of students needing to be moved from their host family.
- Coordinates with his/her LC’s and their schools when needed regarding student registration at school
- As part of the UCEUS team ensures compliance with DOS and CSIET regulations regarding host family recruitment, student and host family placement, orientations, and local supervision
- Distributes student profiles to LC’s and vetted, potential host families
- Markets UCEUS hosting and outbound program opportunities to communities/schools in their region
- Provides LC’s with host family recruitment tools, resources, and ongoing support for timely, high-quality local supervision and placements of students
- Performs "spot checks" by phone with host families, students, and schools to ensure program quality.
- Ensures (informal) cross-cultural activities for students and host families are available
Required Qualifications:
- Proven track record of successfully placing international high school students in host families and schools
- Experience in hiring, orienting and overseeing a network of local representatives or volunteers
- Proven commitment to student learning, safety and the goals of international youth exchange
- Highly responsible, reliable, and detail-oriented
- Cooperative approach to work
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Computer Skills: Microsoft Suites (Word, Outlook, Excel), Google Suite (Docs, Sheets).
- Internet access, phone, and computer
Desired but not required:

- Leadership – the ability to organize and motivate people to get things accomplished in a way that everyone feels a sense of order and direction.

- Experience with a foreign language, counseling, international education, youth programs
- Experience hosting an exchange student and/or living abroad

- Students and Partner agencies are the property of UCEUS. No outside contact should be made at any time for personal use.
- All host families obtained through your employment with UCEUS are the sole property of UCEUS.
- No communication with host families should occur once you are no longer employed by UCEUS.
