Overview
The Custodial and Garden Worker plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and attractiveness of our facilities and grounds. This position is responsible for general custodial tasks, routine maintenance, and the upkeep of gardens and outdoor spaces. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to a positive community atmosphere. Work is performed 3-4 days per week year round. And time of day is somewhat flexible.
Duties
- Perform cleaning and sanitization of indoor facilities, including restrooms, and common areas.
- Empty trash and recycling bins and transport waste to designated disposal sites.
- Restock supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper in restrooms and other areas as needed.
- Help set up and break down rooms for meetings, events, and activities.
- Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and wash floors and surfaces as required.
- Report any maintenance issues, damage, or safety hazards to supervisors promptly.
- Maintain and care for outdoor spaces, including supervised pruning, and clearing pathways
- Operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment such as trimmers, and leaf blowers.
- Remove debris, litter, and fallen leaves from walkways and common outdoor areas.
- Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers to complete larger cleaning and gardening projects.
Requirements
- Previous experience in custodial or gardening roles is preferred but not required; training will be provided for the right candidate.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Familiarity with cleaning supplies and garden equipment is an asset.
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to safety, cleanliness, and quality work.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently when needed.
- Familiarity with commercial cleaning practices and industrial cleaning techniques.
- Experience in facilities maintenance or porter roles is advantageous.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Work Environment
- This is a physically active role that requires frequent movement, lifting, and manual labor both indoors and outdoors.
- The Custodial and Garden Worker may be exposed to cleaning chemicals, dust, pollen, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided as necessary.
- Work hours may include early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends to accommodate facility needs.
- Hours per week starting at 10-12 hrs per week.
