PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform semi-skilled work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the Authority’s distribution systems. Position reports to the Construction Crew Foreman.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Participates in the installation, repair, and/or replacement of the Authority’s distribution systems.
Participates in placement of traffic safety signs at work sites, under supervision of Worksite Traffic Supervisor.
Performs asphalt road and concrete sidewalk repairs; assists in the installation of mainline and service line taps.
Assists in performing minor chemical tests involving chlorine residuals.
Maintains trash, pumps, small compactors, small compactors, portable generators, traffic maintenance equipment and other similar light construction equipment.
Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Fuels and cleans trucks and equipment; ensures trucks are stocked with tools and parts.
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
Loads, transports and unloads tools, equipment and parts to and from the jobsite. Participates in property maintenance duties at the Rockland Construction Yard.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by at least one (1) year of previous experience as a laborer with a public utility or construction company, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid Florida Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s) within one year of date of hire. Must receive the CSUS (Red Book) certificate within 12 months of hire date and must obtain an FDEP Level 3 license within 18 months of hire date or a Florida Class “C” WTPO license, or higher, or will be subject to termination. Must be able to communicate and comprehend the English language.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, temperature extremes, machinery, or disease.
