Basic Scope/Purpose:
Applicants will be contacted by March 12th, 2025. Mandatory Training will be held on March 20th at 6pm in Key Largo.
The Spray Vehicle Operator is an on-call position relating to the operations of the District’s vehicles and spray equipment and will be asked to work on an as-needed basis which includes but is not limited to evenings, weekends, and holidays. The Spray Vehicle Operator is responsible for application of adulticide to designated areas depending upon the mosquito population, for the vehicle and spray equipment assigned for a particular spray mission, and maintaining equipment. The Spray Vehicle Operator will apply abatement materials in compliance with directives, standards, policies, and procedures as set forth by the District Board of Commissioners and administered by the Executive Director.
Reporting Responsibilities:
The Spray Vehicle Operator reports to the Ground ULV Coordinator/Dispatch as well as area supervisors.
Working Conditions:
The Spray Vehicle Operator position requires strenuous physical effort to perform manual work involving walking over rough, uneven terrain, repeated bending and climbing, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or lifting objects up to 50 pounds. The Spray Vehicle Operator will be exposed to both inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, close proximity to moving mechanical parts, exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, and oils and may be required to wear a respirator and other protective equipment as required.
Essential Functions (Without Accommodations):
1. Perform physical inspection of assigned vehicle and spray system before and after each mission.
2. Follow appropriate route and time schedules depending upon area and time of year.
3. Utilize no-spray and special spray lists for assigned areas.
4. Read odometer and similar meters and dials and record such readings.
5. Maintain correct paperwork on time sprayed, hour meter and odometer.
6. Effectively communicate with the public when necessary while conducting missions.
7. Report any incidents, accidents and unusual occurrences to supervisor immediately.
8. Train new employees in policies and procedures when necessary.

Knowledge:
Knowledge and understanding of mosquito control operations, policies, and procedures
Abilities & Skills:
Ability to operate and care for light pick-up truck and insecticide application equipment
Ability to receive instructions and to perform tasks assigned in a safe and efficient manner
Ability to communicate effectively to the public when necessary
Education, Training, & Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent trade school education
Must hold a valid Florida driver’s license
Must be 18 years of age or older
