Part-Time Shark Research and Citizen Science Program Assistant

We are looking for a passionate and skilled individual to assist with our research and citizen science programs in Key Largo, FL. This role is perfect for someone who loves fieldwork, marine science, and community engagement.
Position Overview:
As the Research and Citizen Science Program Assistant, you will support various marine research projects, with a focus on shark research, and help facilitate hands-on citizen science initiatives. The role requires fieldwork on research vessels and the ability to engage with volunteers and the public.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with research projects, particularly involving shark handling and data collection.
- Lead and organize citizen science activities.
- Operate and maintain research equipment on vessels and maintain facility.
- Collaborate with researchers, volunteers, and citizen scientists.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of participants during fieldwork.
- Help manage research data and contribute to scientific reports.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in science (Marine Biology, Ecology, or a related field).
- Experience handling sharks in a research or field setting.
- Experience working on research vessels and familiarity with vessel operations.
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage with diverse groups of volunteers.
- Ability to work outdoors in challenging conditions (e.g., on boats, in water).
- Preferred: US Coast Guard Captain’s License (or progress towards certification).
- Passion for marine conservation and education.
